The listing of procedures will begin with the most common and move inwards towards the inner parts of the brake system and the least common repairs that are needed.

How to Change the front brakes

Taurus front brakes
In order to change the front brakes on a Taurus you must first jack the vehicle up into the air and remove the tire for the side that you want to change. Once the tire has been removed you can see the brake rotor and the brake pads within the caliper. To install new brake pads you only have to remove the brake caliper and swap out the pads. When reinstalling the brake caliper you must torque the caliper bolts to 23 ft-lbs. If you need to remove the entire brake bracket for any job when you go to reinstall it make sure to torque its bolts to 76 ft-lbs. The front brake hose to the front caliper torques down to 29 ft-lbs.

How to change the rear brakes

Taurus Rear brakes
The rear brakes on a Taurus are drum brakes which consist of many small components along with brake shoes. When replacing the brake shoes I recommend getting a kit to also change the components as they often get rust and break after a long period of time. To install new shoes you merely have to remove the rear tire and then pry off the brake drum. Once the drum is off you can remove the parts and then take off the shoe and then do the reverse steps to put the brakes back together.
